Littleton Community Information

Littleton real estate history began when a water engineer surveyed the land. His name was Richard Little, from New Hampshire. He fell in love with the area and filed a home stake. He brought his wife to the area in 1862, and together they started life on the plains adjacent to the South Platte River.

The Littles joined other farmers and built the Rough and Ready Flour Mill in 1867, which provided the economic base for the community. Within ten years of their arrival, the Littles filed a plat to subdivide much of their property into the village of Littleton. By the time of Colorado’s statehood in 1876, there were schools, churches and stores.  In 1890, the 245 residents voted to incorporate the Town of Littleton.

Since that time, Littleton has grown at a steady pace, first becoming the County Seat in 1904 and then adding Arapahoe Community College in 1965. For years, Littleton real estate meant a small farm just south of Denver. Today, electronics, pneumatics and aerospace are the primary industries in Littleton.

This quaint town is larger than it seems, spreading in a concentric ring from it’s downtown. Looking nearby, you’ll find neighborhoods like the Louthan Heights Historic District, a street of Craftsman style homes with broad porches and clipped gable roofs. You’ll find Ketring Park and Gallup Pond, and the unique custom homes built here shortly after World War II.

Just west of the historic downtown, you’ll find the South Platte River, whose water source is Rocky Mountain snow melt. Alongside the river you’ll find a restful trail, home to joggers, in-line skaters and cyclists who enjoy a long ride. The trail leads to Confluence Park – adjacent to Elitch Gardens in LoDo.

Surrounding the Platte River Trail, the Columbine Golf Course and Country Club offers luxurious custom homes built from the 1980’s to 2008. And back in the center of Historic Downtown, you’ll find modern condos and lofts within walking distance of the Light Rail Station and everything Denver offers.

Most of all, Littleton real estate offers a comfortable home in historic districts, luxurious enclaves and urban lofts. Whatever your Littleton real estate needs, we’ll help you find what you’re looking for.
