Cherry Creek Real Estate History

Denver real estate expanded eastward in the late 1870s with a little enclave called Harmon. Eventually, Harmon’s town hall was built at Fourth Avenue and St Paul Street, where it still stands today. Many small farms and greenhouses dotted the landscape. In 1925, Temple Buell, an early Denver architect, bought land next to Cherry Creek. Two decades later, Buell announced plans to build a shopping center on his land. In 1953, the first stores in Cherry Creek opened for business. Today, the Cherry Creek Mall is the largest single tourist attraction in Denver.

Cherry Creek, as an exclusive shopping area, attracted fashionable residents. The small farms soon gave way to luxurious homes. Cherry Creek real estate is a potpourri of architectural styles. The neighborhoods of Hilltop, Belcaro, Polo Club, Congress Park and Country Club surround Cherry Creek Shopping Center with a fascinating mix of Cherry Creek homes for sale.

The Cherry Creek Neighborhood Plan was adopted by the Denver City Council in March, 1986 as part of Denver's Comprehensive Plan. The Steering Committee which developed the plan continues to meet to review new development proposals. A number of other special interest groups also work to maintain the livability of the Cherry Creek real estate and retail neighborhood.
